‘Sherlock’: Watch a cryptic new teaser for series four

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman’s Doctor Watson return to BBC One on New Year’s Day.

sherlock-teaser

A cryptic new teaser for Sherlock‘s new series aired on BBC One tonight (November 30).

The clip features a still of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman’s Doctor Watson with the teasing caption: “It’s not a game anymore.” Watch below.

Sherlock‘s return was confirmed for January 2017 last month with a surprise trailer that also aired on BBC One. The first episode, airing on New Year’s Day, will be titled ‘The Six Thatchers’.

The show’s last series aired in 2014. Cumberbatch and Freeman first played Doyle’s iconic characters Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in 2010.

The BBC previously revealed that series four will begin with Cumberbatch’s title character “back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents for the first time”.

Benedict Cumberbatch has hinted that the next series of Sherlock could be the last. Discussing the new series with GQ, Cumberbatch said: “It might be the end of an era. It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately.”

However, the actor also said: “We never say never on the show. I’d love to revisit it, I’d love to keep revisiting it, I stand by that, but in the immediate future we all have things that we want to crack on with and we’ve made something very complete as it is, so I think we’ll just wait and see. The idea of never playing him again is really galling.”

Beyoncé has released a standalone music video for her reggae-tinged track ‘All Night’.

‘All Night’, whose co-writers include Diplo and Outkast’s Andre 3000, appears on the singer’s acclaimed ‘Lemonade’ album, which she dropped in April. Its accompanying visuals, which begin with a distinctive spoken word intro, originally formed part of the hour-long film that premiered on HBO when ‘Lemonade’ was released.

‘Lemonade’ was named within the Top 20 of NME’s Albums Of The Year 2016 – check out the full list here.

Beyoncé is one of three huge headliners who have reportedly been booked for next year’s Coachella festival. Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead are also rumoured to be headlining the hugely popular annual bash in California.

However, the singer has yet to confirm any live shows for 2017. She wrapped ‘The Formation World Tour’ in April after playing 49 dates across North America and Europe, including a pair of sell-out shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé is reportedly urging husband Jay Z to patch things up with Kanye West following news of the rapper’s recent hospitalisation.

Earlier this month (November) she was named one of the Top 10 highest-earning women in music. Taylor Swift, Madonna and Adele also feature on the list – check out the full Top Ten here.

Bob Dylan skips Barack Obama’s meeting for US Nobel Prize winners

Dylan has already said he won’t be attending the Nobel Prize ceremony in Sweden next month (December).

Bob Dylan has once again displayed an apparent lack of enthusiasm for his Nobel Prize.

The iconic singer-songwriter did not attend a meeting held by President Barack Obama at the White House today (November 30) for American Nobel Prize winners.

“Unfortunately, Bob Dylan will not be at the White House today. So everyone can relax,” press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters assembled, according to the Hill.

Obama congratulated Dylan on Twitter when it was announced he had won the Nobel Prize last month (October).

The Swedish Academy, which awards the prestigious annual prize, said in a statement last week that Dylan has confirmed he will be absent from the Nobel ceremony on December 10.

The statement said that Dylan had written a personal letter explaining that “pre-existing commitments” had prevented him from attending.

The Academy added: “We look forward to Bob Dylan’s Nobel Lecture, which he must give – it is the only requirement – within six months counting from December 10, 2016.”

The Academy has since added in a new statement: “The Swedish Academy has decided not to organize an alternative plan for the Nobel Lecture traditionally held on December 7th.

“There is a chance that Bob Dylan will be performing in Stockholm next year, possibly in the spring, in which case he will have a perfect opportunity to deliver his lecture. We will post more information as soon as we have it.”

According to his Facebook page, Dylan has no live shows in the diary in December, suggesting his “pre-existing commitments” are of a personal nature.

Dylan was announced as the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature on October 13. The Academy praised him for “creating new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”. Despite this, Dylan failed initially to acknowledge the honour, and was branded “impolite and arrogant” by one member of the Academy for failing to respond.

Dylan finally spoke about being awarded the Nobel Prize over two weeks after it was announced he was receiving the honour.

“It’s hard to believe,” he told the Daily Telegraph in an interview. “[Being awarded the Nobel Prize is] amazing, incredible. Whoever dreams about something like that?”

Asked why he chose to stay silent about it for so long, Dylan only replied: “Well, I’m right here.”

Andrew Garfield admits his Spider-Man films were ‘compromised’

Andrew Garfield speaks candidly about his experience playing the webslinger in the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ films.

spider-man-andrew-garfield

Andrew Garfield has spoken candidly about his experience playing Spider-Man, admitting he was left “heartbroken” by the way his films were “compromised”.

The British actor played the webslinger in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. Both films performed more than respectably at the box office, but Sony made the decision to team with Marvel for another franchise reboot instead of making a third Garfield-led movie.

“There were great things about it, I got to work with incredible actors, a really great director,” Garfield told Variety. “I learned a lot about what feels good and what doesn’t feel good, and what to say ‘yes’ to. There’s something about being that young in that kind of machinery which I think is really dangerous…”

He added: “I was still young enough to struggle with the value system, I suppose, of corporate America really, it’s a corporate enterprise mostly.”

Continuing, Garfield admitted he felt frustrated by the way the film’s narrative and character-driven elements were ultimately deemed of secondary importance.

He explained: “There’s something that happened with that experience for me where story and character were actually not top of the priority list, ultimately. And I found that really, really tricky. I signed up to serve the story and to serve this incredible character that I’ve been dressing as since I was three, and then it gets compromised and it breaks my heart. I got heartbroken a little bit, to a certain degree. Not entirely.”

The franchise’s reboot, Spider-Man: Homecoming, finished shooting in October and hits cinema screens next July. Director Jon Watts has recently shared some fresh behind-the-scenes footage featuring Tom Holland, the young British actor who has succeeded Garfield as the webslinger.

Kanye West reportedly wants to record new music while he recovers in hospital.

The rapper was hospitalised last week when he was said to be suffering from “severe sleep deprivation”. According to reports, he refused to go to hospital voluntarily and had to be restrained for transport. Doctors diagnosed him with “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration”.

It has since been reported that he was due to be released this Monday (November 28), but was judged not to be stable yet. Now US Weekly claims to have been informed that the rapper is struggling to switch off while he recovers.

“Kanye keeps wanting to work. At the hospital, he requested that recording equipment be brought to the hospital so he can record in his bed,” an unnamed source told the publication. “And he has kept asking to see sketches of his fashion lines.”

The unnamed source added: “He continues to want to work and Kim has to keep telling him to rest.”

West’s hospitalisation came after a dramatic few weeks. He cancelled the remainder of his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour after a concert in Sacramento where he cut his set short after just 30 minutes. Before he left the stage, he aimed a lengthy tirade at Beyoncé, claiming that her husband and West’s former friend and collaborator Jay Z had the means to have him killed.

The ‘Gold Digger’ rap veteran also caused controversy and split opinion when he admitted he “would have voted for Donald Trump”.

Lady GagaPusha TJohn Legend and Chance The Rapper are among the stars who have sent their best wishes to West. Legend said he was “concerned” about the ‘Life of Pablo’ artist, while Chance sent “a very special prayer to my big brother, Kanye West”. Pusha T thanked West for the “endless opportunities you have brought to me”.

Meanwhile, West’s latest album ‘The Life Of Pablo’ made it to number two in NME‘s albums of the year list for 2016.

Lauren Graham compares Gilmore Girls to Donald Trump?

Graham has urged fans to not take the show “literally”

gilmoregirls2016revivalrorylorelaiending

November 25 saw the revival of popular show Gilmore Girls, with four feature-length episodes streaming exclusively to Netflix.

Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons from 2000 – 2007 and starred Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledel as her daughter Rory Gilmore. The four-part Netflix revival picked up eight years on from the original series.

The revival has been met with mixed reactions, with some viewers taking to social media to express how Lorelai, Rory, and other characters were “kind of awful sometimes and a little bit selfish.”

As Entertainment Weekly points out, Lauren Graham has responded to the backlash at a SAG-AFTRA panel discussion, comparing the revival to Donald Trump. Speaking of Rory’s boyfriend Paul whom the characters keep forgetting, Graham replied, “We don’t pay attention to anything. We don’t know. None of us are on the internet, almost at all.”

“So I know what you mean, but the show has a sense of humour, and that’s its sense of humour. And I think maybe it feels a little different; Rory’s not in high school anymore, so yes, as grown women constantly forgetting… I just thought it was a funny runner,” she continued.

“But the whole show has a kind of heightened theatrical quality. I mean, just like Donald Trump, don’t take it literally.”

gilmoregirls2016revivalrory

Lauren Graham is also set to publish a book that recounts her experiences of starring in Gilmore Girls.

In her book, Talking As Fast As I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, Graham offers her thoughts on the original seasons as well as reflections on her career.

While Graham writes that the show gave her “an adrenaline-fueled dialogue high” during Season 1, she admits to struggling with the role by the final seasons.

Speaking about the book to USA Today, she compared filming the seventh season without creator Amy Sherman-Palladino to “when David Lee Roth was replaced as the lead singer of Van Halen.”

However, Graham added that she has found the reboot, which was released on Netflix last week, “incredibly satisfying”.

Azealia Banks ‘swears at photographer’ after facing assault charges in court

The rapper is accused of biting a nightclub bouncer on the breast in New York City last year (2015).

`

Azealia Banks reportedly swore at a photographer as she left court yesterday (November 29).

The rapper was appearing in court in Manhattan to face charges of misdemeanour assault, attempted assault and disorderly conduct. She is accused of biting a nightclub bouncer on the breast and spitting at her during an incident in New York City last year (2015).

According to Page Six, Banks swore at a paparazzo outside the courtroom after he informed her that her car had arrived.

“You’re a shithead! You’re a fucking asshole!” she is quoted as saying. “You’re welcome,” the snapper is said to have replied.

Earlier this month (November) Banks celebrated Donald Trump’s US election victory on Facebook, despite previously disowning the Republican candidate. She said she felt “fucking proud as fuck” after it emerged he had beaten Hillary Clinton to the presidency.

Meanwhile, Banks will no longer be signing to RZA‘s label following her alleged altercation with actor Russell Crowe at a hotel party in Los Angeles in October.

Banks reportedly filed a battery report against the actor after accusing him of assaulting her and uttering racial slurs. Banks went to the police after Crowe refused to apologise for what had allegedly happened.

She has since told The Sun that she considers the 52-year-old to be a “a racist, misogynist pig” after the alleged incident. Crowe’s representatives have denied any wrongdoing on the actor’s part since the incident came to light.
